So I recently noticed that, at least as far as I can tell, all playable versions of xkcd's Hell Tetris died when flash did. So I made my own, playable using html!

Send me or comment a high score (and difficulty settings used) and I can start a high scores list!

Current High Score: 76 lines by sanvsarr

Controls

  • Arrow keys or wasd to move a block. Down will make it go down faster and up will rotate it
  • Z and X will rotate it as well

Difficulty Settings Descriptions

  • Bottom shape - round or circle. Round is directly inspired by xkcd, but I left my testing square one in because it turns out that physics based tetris is just a good time in general
  • Squares needed for line - the number of squares in a row will let a line clear. 10 is standard for Tetris. 11 is only possible with certain other settings. Lower will make the difficulty easier
  • Enforce rotation - if on, will only clear a line if all of the pieces are relatively close to upright and angled correctly.
  • Rotation Threshold - Only works if enforce rotation is on. Controls how far from vertical is accepted. 0 is perfectly vertical and probably impossible. Higher is easier.

This is an alpha build. I'm trying a new thing where I release a half finished project and then update it was we go. If you find any bugs or have suggestions, tweet me or post to the comments.

Planned but Unimplemented Features:

  • Display next piece
  • More difficulty settings and in game descriptions
  • Better menus
  • Better art
  • Music
  • Sound effects
  • Difficulty scaling with time (increased gravity?)

Maybe if I Feel Like It Features:

  • Automated public high scores list
  • Free hugs
  • A kitten
